Elgin Country Lodge

Pros: We stayed here for one night on our way to East London. We received a warm welcome from Mum Hermien, who is incredibly kind, lovely, and friendly. She made us feel right at home. The breakfast was delicious, and the rooms were very comfortable. We especially loved the many apple trees on the property. I will definitely come back!

Great base for exploration of the glorious Elgin Valley wine farms, orchards and trails.

Pros: Good base to explore the Elgin Valley. Great views of orchards and mountains. Well tended gardens. Tasty breakfasts. Excellent hostess.

Cons: Proximity to N2. Too close so some road noise.

Countryside comfort

Pros: The lodge is comfortable, immaculate and in a beautiful setting. I was not exactly sure when I would arrive and the host was accommodating and welcomed me on arrival. The room was spacious and I had an excellent night’s sleep.

Cons: It met all my expectations. It is just off the N2 highway so in the morning it requires some patience if you need to get across the traffic and head to Cape Town.

Good location.

Pros: We stayed in the upstairs room with a small balcony overlooking the anpple orchards. The room is spacious and the bathroom is large. You can use the main lounge in the house which is comfortable. Breakfast is fairly limited. Eggs are made to order. The accommodation is right opposite the farm shop and 5 mins drive from Elgin Railway Market.

Cons: The bathroom could benefit from a refit. The plumbing definitely needs looking at.

Cons: Could have better lighting at night when coming from parking lot to rooms, but the security guard was extremely kind and lit his torch and walked me to my room.

Pros: Excellent Breakfast. Well positioned for stay-over. Friendly staff. Comfortable room and spacious.

Excellent stay in Elgin

Pros: It was such a lovely place to stay. So tranquil and peaceful. The host, Hermien, was very kind, helpful and hospitable. The breakfast was delightful.

Warm and welcoming with a luxury feel, well located

Pros: So well located near the N2 if you need a stopover before Cape Town. The place was lovely and the room was huge and so comfortable, with teas and rusks waiting for me. The staff were so friendly, warm and welcoming. The breakfast was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble. I was staying on my own and felt very safe, as a woman this is important. This stay felt like the best in South African hospitality, loved it.
